How to properly cut/shorten LED strips to fit your product
When installing a new/spare LED strip, you might need to shorten it so it fits your product. In this article, we explain how to properly cut the LED strip without damaging it. How to measure where to cut the LED strip?
Simply place the old (non-working) LED strip and the new one side by side on a flat surface. Use the old one as the reference to see where the new strip needs to be cut in order to match the length of the old one.
For the cutting process, you can use any sharp paper scissors.
Where on the strip should I cut to avoid damage?
There are three types of LED strips that are used across EK products, and here's how to properly cut each of them:
Shortening the EK Loop D-RGB LED strips
Shortening the EK-Loop D-RGB LED Strip Dense
Shortening the EK-Loop D-RGB LED Strip Edge Diffused Strip
Shortening the EK-Loop D-RGB LED Strip
You can cut these LED strips along the line that is visible between every LED light. See the picture below.

Shortening the EK-Loop D-RGB LED Strip Edge Diffused Strip
You can cut this LED strip in three different places located between the LED lights:
- Right after the light and before the next solder point
- Between the two solder points
- After the two solder points before the next light
