Do I have to sign for my shipment when the courier delivers it?
Typically, couriers require consignees to sign the package so both sides are sure the package ended up with the right person. This way, both the customer and the courier are protected. However, most couriers allow you to reach out to them and ask if they could remove the mandatory delivery signature for your order.
Since you need your reference tracking number (AWB) when contacting the courier, you'll have to wait until you receive the shipment confirmation email that contains your tracking number. We advise you to have the tracking ID on hand when you reach out to the courier.
Is it recommended to request the delivery signature removal?
Couriers typically don’t accept liability if your shipment is stolen or delivered to the wrong location. Similarly, should you decide to proceed with the delivery signature removal and your order is either stolen or delivered to the wrong place, EK will not be able to cover any of the resulting costs. That is why we do not recommend requesting the removal of the delivery signature.
Useful signature-related information about the couriers
We recommend that you read the details listed below about the following couriers:
DHL
DHL’s On-Demand Delivery offers multiple options to receive your shipment at your convenience. One of them is the “Signature Release” option. The signature release allows DHL’s courier to leave the parcel at an agreed-upon area. During the COVID-19 period, this option has temporarily become the standard for our couriers to practice contactless delivery. With this option, the consignee doesn’t need to sign for the shipment or interact with DHL’s staff. Check out other On-Demand Delivery options and choose the one that suits you best.
DPD
Unfortunately, DPD will always require your signature upon delivery. However, you can contact their local customer service or use their myDPD app to provide additional instructions for your delivery. You can also redirect your shipment to a safe place, a parcel shop of your choice, or change the day or address of delivery.
DPD typically sends an email or a text message with the parcel number before the delivery. In case of a failed delivery, and if your parcel ends up at the delivery center, you can arrange a new delivery using their myDPD app or reach out to their customer service.
UPS
To remove the mandatory signature, reach out to a UPS customer center. You can also ask their customer service to leave your package at a UPS location, like UPS Stores or a UPS Access Point location. Keep in mind that transportation fees may apply depending on the final destination.
International Post
Typically, local Post couriers request a signature upon delivery. This can vary depending on your location, so we recommend contacting your local post office for more details.
