Why am I being charged tax for shipping to Australia?
On 1 July 2018, Australia’s law around GST (goods and services tax) on low-value imported goods was changed. With the change, a 10% tax on all goods sold by EK to Australian consumers is applied. You can see the value of the applied tax in the final phase of the checkout before placing your order.
- If the value of the order is below 1000 AUD, taxes are already applied to the total value of the order at the time of sale and additional taxes should not be charged at the time of import in Australia.
- If the value of the order exceeds 1000 AUD, the order does not include taxes at the time of sale, but they will be charged at the time of import in Australia.
All parcels with a stated value above 1000 AUD entering Australia are subject to the assessment of duties and related fees imposed by the Australian Customs Service.
